The code is a hold over from the airport’s old name, Moisant Stock Yards, where aviation pioneer John Bevins Moisant crashed his plane in 1910. The new airport was named in his honor, and the code still stands for this original name despite the name change in 1960 to the current Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
